Bringing samples into your Ableton project that aren't in the same key as your song usually means doing some simple math to work out how many semitones to pitch it up or down - whether it's a sample you've dropped onto an audio track or into a Simpler. It's simple math but still, wouldn't it be nice if there were a device that could do that for you?

Well that's why I made this - Key To Semitone. It's a neat little Max For Live device that'll sit anywhere within your project and help you work that out instantly. Just choose the key of your sample, the key of your project/song and then it'll show you how many semitones you'll need to transpose the sample up or down. Simple.

Want to figure out how many semitones to transpose a sample up or down in Simpler? Just set the 'Project Key' to C and then the 'Sample Key' to whatever your sample is - bam, you've got the figure you need for the transpose in Simpler.

I made this in Ableton Live 12 but it may work in previous versions, if you try it out and it works let me know!
